And so it begins...

Monday morning was a big one. I made my first prenatal appointment and then went to the dentist, which is where I told my first non-Aaron person that I'm pregnant.

And then I got my first rude pregnancy comment, from the hygienist.

"So, was it planned?"

Isn't that kind of like asking if we know how to use birth control or not? Too weird. The strange thing is that Aaron's boss asked him the same thing. Aaron fessed up because he wants to attend appointments with me, so he let his boss know he'd be taking a morning off at least once per month, and his boss basically said, "Congratulations! Did you plan it?"

I can't believe how soon the rude questions started, but I suppose I should get used to it.

I've known I'm pregnant for a week now, and I'm still getting used to it. This is just so new and weird and different. I'm loving it all (so far).

I would have been tempted to reply with "Congratulations on being such a bitch! Did you plan it, or does that just come naturally?"

i like audrey's comeback!

i'm so used to people not telling until they are a few months along. i guess i am around a lot of worrywart types?

get ready for the rudeness. soon people will just touch your belly without asking.

That is amazing to me! This is sort of judge-y, too, but I would always assume that it's planned if the couple is married. We all know that sometimes it's not, exactly, but as long as the couple is happy, who cares?

I couldn't remember if I commented before and if not: CONGRATS!

And yes, sadly, that is only the beginning of just how in your business people will assume they can be because you're having a baby. Ugh.

Yes, that's an awful question to ask any expecting parent, and one I don't think was ever asked of me. Though they certainly feel free to comment on everything else.

That's the first time I had to tell someone other than friends too. I had to decline the x-rays, but the kicker was that since Jeff's dad is my dentist, his parents immediately suspected something so we had to tell them much sooner than we wanted to.

Congrats! I have had that comment A LOT in the past 24 weeks. It's a bit weird, to say the least. Oh well. I just tell them - we're just going with the flow. :)
